For several decades, vinyl banner signs
have been used for event marketing and promotions. Vinyl's relative
inexpensive price, it's durability, and vivid surface, make it perfect
for signs, advertisements, and other uses. New forms of vinyl have
eliminated its main disadvantage, which was the difficulty of
application.
Current vinyl banner signs are made from thin sheets of vinyl, which is
usually self-adhesive. Where vinyl isn't self-adhesive, pressure
sensitive adhesives are available. These new adhesives replace the
chemical- and heat-sensitive adhesives of the past, becoming the method
of choice of today. Pressure sensitive adhesives have simplified the
installation and removal process of vinyl banner signage.
Printing on PVC mesh is a popular alternative to printing on vinyl. The
lightweight and very durable perforated PVC mesh has a printable
surface, which can hold up in severe and windy weather. These
characteristics make PVC mesh a common and practical choice for outdoors
applications including scaffolding, building screens, light post
displays, and massive advertisement banners.
Some forms of vinyl permit one-sided transparency, creating a popular
custom auto graphics. The one-sided transparent vinyl has also been used
for retail spaces and tradeshows. Other popular alternatives to vinyl
banners are light box displays and duratrans.
